Athletic Field Status Update

10/1/26 - Freedom Park fields 1 & 2 are closed for maintenance. All other Carteret County Parks & Recreation fields and facilities are open.

Youth Basketball: Girls & Boys Ages 5-14

Carteret County Parks & Recreation Youth Basketball is a recreational program for boys and girls ages 5-14. Players will learn basketball fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a fun and positive environment.

Programs are offered in the following areas:
 
-Down East
-Beaufort
-Newport
-Broad Creek/White Oak

Please register by your child's age and preferred location.
Age cut-off date is January 1st, 2027.
 
Registration opens: September 23, 2026
Registration closes: November 2, 2026
 
Registration Fee: $70
Late Registration Fee (after 11/2/2026): $85

Friday Night Lights - Flashbax Arcade

Friday Night Lights is the ultimate evening out for youth ages 10-13! This program is all about giving kids a safe, fun, and exciting place to spend their Friday nights with friends!
 
Join us for a special Retro Game Night at Flashbax Arcade in Morehead City! Step back in time and experience the classic arcade games that have entertained generations. Participants will have the opportunity to play a variety of retro arcade favorites, challenge their friends, and compete for prizes in a fun and energetic environment.
 
This program will take place on Friday, October 9th. We will leave from the Fort Benjamin parking lot in front of the main building at 5:00 pm (5:15 pm at the latest), head over to the Flashbax Arcade, then return back to Fort Benjamin between 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm. Snacks and quarters for games will be provided at the arcade.
 
We look forward to creating another fun and memorable Friday Night Lights experience at Flashbax Arcade!

Haunted House - Goose Creek

Get ready for a night of Halloween fun! Join us as we head out for a trip to a local haunted house for a night filled with scares, laughs, and a night you won't forget!
 
This trip will take place of Friday, October 16. We will leave from the Fort Benjamin parking lot in front of the main building at 7:30 pm (7:45 pm at the latest), head over to the local Goose Creek haunted house, then return back to Fort Benjamin around 10 pm.
 
Grab your friends and test your courage as you make your way through the haunted attraction. Whether you love everything Halloween or just enjoy trying something new, this is a great opportunity to get out, have some fun, and enjoy the spooky season with others!

The Adventure Club-Sylvan Heights Bird Park

The Adventure Club is off again!
This is the outline for the day providing some great experiences in Halifax County!
Meet us at Fort Benjamin on October 23rd for a Field Trip to Sylvan Heights Bird Park for some amazing and beautiful views of birds from around the world as well as their newest exhibit Penguin Point.
Lunch will be at the park and a menu will be provided,.
We will travel back to Fort Benjamin with some possible stops on the way back home time allowing.
We will leave at 9am sharp with return by 4pm.
Cost is $20 per person for travel and park admission.

Yoga for All

Yoga is for everybody and every body! This is yoga for all levels, from beginners to seasoned practitioners, open to all adults. Continuous classes are held on Thursday mornings from 9:00am to 10:00am, in the exercise room at Fort Benjamin Recreation Center.
